Veteran internist a fixture in North Texas for two decades
The Medical Center of Plano has announced the appointment of Khang N. Tran, M.D., to the position of Chief Medical Officer.
The appointment is effective immediately. Dr. Tran succeeds Dr. Ann Arnold, who retired September 30. A member of the hospital’s medical staff since 1976, Dr. Arnold had performed in the role of CMO since 2009.
“It’s a real feather in our cap for us to be able to place in this key position a physician and healthcare executive of Dr. Tran’s eminence,” said Troy A. Villarreal, FACHE, chief executive officer of TMCP. “It would hard to find anyone currently active in the North Texas medical community who’s held in higher regard.”
“The shoes I must try to fill are very large ones,” said Dr. Tran “However, I do feel well prepared to assume these new duties, having held – as Dr. Arnold twice did – the title of Chief of Staff, and also having served, since last year, in the newly created post of Medical Director of Primary Care Services.”
Dr. Tran’s education, training, and practice of internal medicine have all been firmly rooted in North Texas. For the past decade, he has been affiliated with the Medical Clinic of North Texas, one of the region’s largest group practices, and has held a seat on MCNT’s board of directors since 2005.
Dr. Tran attended college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, majoring in biological sciences with a minor in psychology. His undergraduate degree was awarded magna cum laude in 1993. Dr. Tran then began medical studies at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, also in Dallas. He graduated in 1997.
Dr. Tran next completed a three-year residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern, serving concurrently as a staff physician in Parkland Memorial Hospital’s ambulatory care center. He entered private practice in 2000.
Board-certified in internal medicine, he is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, the American Medical Group Association, and the Plano Physicians Network.
He has been named by Texas Monthly as one of its “Texas Super Doctors,” and by D Magazine as one of the “Best Doctors in Collin County” and “Best Doctors in Dallas.”
Dr. Tran is married. He and his wife have a young son.
