Put safety first whenever you take a trip.
Summer is peak travel season, so there are a lot of other people out there with the same idea of a vacation trip. If you have plans to pack up and head out on an adventure, be sure to follow these important safety tips.
Traveling by Car
If you're taking a road trip, be sure to have all scheduled car maintenance squared away before you leave. If you're up to date, consider asking your mechanic to do a preventative check up just to be on the safe side. Follow the rules of the road, wear your seatbelt and be sure children are in appropriate safety seats. Reduce your risk of an accident by focusing on the road and pledging to not be a distracted driver. Also, have a roadside emergency kit and your auto insurance information handy.
Traveling by Plane
If you're flying to your destination, be sure to follow Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines. Give yourself plenty of time, have an acceptable form of identification with you and only pack approved items in your carry-on bags. Call the TSA Cares helpline at 1-855-787-2227 seventy-two hours prior to departure if you have questions regarding traveling with a disability or medical condition.
Regardless of your mode of transportation, it's always a good idea to have any necessary medications, prescriptions, doctor's contact numbers and health insurance information with you while away from home. Consider scheduling an appointment with your doctor before leaving on a vacation. If you need help finding a doctor, use the Medical Center of Plano online Find a Physician service or call our toll-free Physician Referral Line at 1-855-665-TMCP (8627).
